PAINTED CLIFFS WINS GAIN RAILWAY STAKES(GROUP 2)

Aidan O’Brien moved closer to Vincent O’Brien’s tally of 14 Railway Stakes wins when Painted Cliffs who was sent off a 7-1 shot under Ryan Moore recorded a smooth success in the GAIN Railway Stakes at the Curragh on Saturday. Aidan O’Brien, who has saddled subsequent Classic winners Rock Of Gibraltar, George Washington and Mastercraftsman to win the Railway, is now on 12 victories in the race after Painted Cliffs proved too good for his four rivals.

Ryan Moore commented “He did that well – I took it up far too early. He’s a nice horse who’ll improve.” Painted Cliffs was well beaten on his debut under O’Brien’s son Joseph at the Curragh in May, but bounced back at Leopardstown this month. “We liked this lad early and we’re not sure why he struggled on debut” said Aidan O’ Brien. “Joseph felt he may have been babyish or idle, so we put blinkers on him at Leopardstown. Maybe that was not a great race, we were not sure, but he was good there. He’ll get further I feel. Ryan felt he actually got there early on him.”

Well done to the Ballydoyle team and all winning connections.
