Nicola Fitzgibbon to GAIN The Advantage in 2015!
From Kilteel in Co. Kildare, Nicola is 27 years old and has been passionate about horses from an early age. Over the years she has achieved many successes with a variety of equine partners, from Pony National Champion two years running on Miami Bound to Senior National Champion and Aga Khan team-member on Puissance in more recent years. Having completed her studies in Trinity College Dublin in 2010, her main focus now is running a small private show jumping stable from her home in Kilteel, producing younger horses right up the ranks to Grand Prix level. Nicola produces talented younger show jumpers to sell on as well as keeping some older horses to compete at top senior level both nationally and internationally. She provides exclusive competition livery where the horses are trained and competed by Nicola as well as receiving the very best of care. We asked a Nicola to tell us a bit more about herself!
Date of Birth: 15-09-87
Place of work: Cromwellstown Stables, Kilteel, Ireland
First Pony: Captain Copper- he’s still going strong!
What I love about showjumping: that your success depends very much on the partnership you build up with your horse, and taking short cuts with your training never pays off.
What is the biggest drag about showjumping: that horses have their “off” days too!
Biggest influence on your career: My late mum, Kathryn
Greatest achievement to date: being on the Irish team and jumping a 4 fault and clear round in the Aga Khan with Puissance.
Biggest disappointment to date: the early retirement of that wonderful horse- Puissance.
Goal for the 2015: to compete successfully again on the international circuit.
Ultimate Goal: to produce a string of younger horses myself to jump at a high level Internationally.
Horse I am most excited about and why: I have a few up-and-coming stars, but my and Niall Talbot’s 6 year old stallion “Elliot” came into a class of his own towards the end of last year so I’m really excited to see him progress again this year!
What I feed my horses: GAIN Elite 10 and Opti- Care Balancer.
I have been feeding GAIN to my horses since the start of the year and already they are in great condition and in fantastic form for the season ahead!”
What I’m really good at: I’m pretty hard on myself, so I tend to think I could be better at most things!
I can’t believe that: I’ve been fortunate enough to have had such strong support and luck since I’ve begun riding that I’ve been able to make showjumping my career! From family to friends, trainers to owners to the people that take such good care of my horses, extremely generous sponsors and of course the good luck to produce many talented horses!
Besides show jumping I am passionate about: food
Favourite restaurant: Porthouse Tapas
Favourite holiday: somewhere warm and sunny with plenty of activities to keep me occupied!
Favourite music: anything upbeat
Favourite way to relax: playing with my dog, Peanut
