Irish Breeders Classic 2018 A Huge Success

Over the weekend GAIN Equine Nutrition and Alltech sponsored the Irish Breeders Classic in Barnadown Co. Wexford. Now in its 7th year, The Irish Breeders Classic is a firm fixture in the Irish show jumping calendar, hosting the world’s richest young horse class with a prize fund of €50,000. It is an ideal platform to showcase the best of only Irish bred horses .

This year there were over 90 entries and the best 25 combinations over two days of showjumping qualified for the final on Sunday. After a thrilling final, 13 made into the jump off against the clock. Kilkenny rider Jack Ryan with his own homebred ‘BBS McGregor’ had the fastest time to win the class!

Along with the Irish Breeders Classic, there was a four-year-old championship, as well as a championship for 7 and 8-year old horses. The ever-popular select foal auction took place on Saturday, of the 15 entrants the top lot made €18,000 and a further 5 foals went for over €10,000. These prices show the strength and demand for Irish bred horses internationally.

The Irish Breeders Classic has solidified its reputation for producing talented and successful Irish bred international show jumpers, including MHS Going Global, Arraghbeg Clover (Gold Medalist World Breeding Showjumping Championships), Ard Ginger Pop (Silver Medalist World Breeding Showjumping Championships), Killossery Kaiden (Gold Medalist World Breeding Showjumping Championships) and Columbcille Gipsy (Gold Medalist World Breeding Showjumping Championships) in 2017. Jack Ryan and BBS McGregor head to the World Breeding Showjumping Championships in Lanaken, Belgium later this month and fingers crossed their good form continues!
